Elemental Gets a 20-Minute Extended Look at Disney's CinemaCon 2023 Showcase

Must read

At CinemaCon 2023, Disney revealed a 20-minute extended look at the beginning of Pixar's Elemental, the upcoming film that looks to explore the perceived differences between the fire, water, land, and air-residents of Element City and how they all have much more in common than they believe.

The clip shown to attendees at Disney's presentation at CinemaCon 2023 began with two fire characters – Bernie and Cinder – arriving to Element City on a boat and dealing with immigration officials. We then follow them to their home where we are introduced to their baby, Ember (Leah Lewis), who is one of the main characters of the film.

The footage then proceeds to show Ember growing up, and one scene shows the family's shop and Ember's father saying that one day it would be hers. Two water characters then walk in and splash things by accident and we hear Ember say, "you splash it, you buy it!"

We then see Ember as a teenager and she loses her temper with a young fire customer who just wanted a free fire snack. We can clearly see Ember has an issue with anger, which is fitting as she is fire! We also see her spitting out a fireball and flipping it like a pizza and telling a customer to "get off your lazy ash!" Hooray, fire puns!

Ember has an attitude of "elements don't mix" and thinks she has everything she needs in her neighborhood and never really needs to cross the bridge into the city. It's also shown that her father is possibly sick or dying from something as he has a bad cough and keeps talking about needing a nap.

One day, Ember is running the shop by herself on the day of a big sale and is losing her temper with people again. This time, her anger gets the best of her and she floods the basement of the shop. Out of the water appears our other protagonist, the water resident Wade (Mamoudou Athie), who is a city inspector and gives her a ticket for the shop's piping not being up to code.

He is easily overwhelmed, however, and cries a lot and in great amounts. Ember chases him back to city hall as he tries to turn in her shop's violation, and this gets them on a train toward downtown Element City and is followed by a chase that ends the clip.

Elemental will be released in theaters on June 16, 2023. For more, check out even more details from the film and all the news on Walt Disney Animation's Wish from CinemaCon 2023.
